Amy from Amy’s Baking Company, and Mattel’s Masters of the Universe Classics Evil Lyn figure…am I the only one who sees an UNCANNY resemblance between the two?

Lestamore = Less to More

So, I am posting this because I have seen some stuff here lately about people not being happy with who they are, or about people who are “fake”.

The post title is where my url comes from, and also Lestamore has been my online name for 15 years or so now.  This is one of the most important concepts to me. I want to share it with you guys.
  It is pretty simple.  Basically, you get to decide who you want to be.  I mean, there are details you can’t change, but you can decide how you want to handle those details.  You determine your sense of style, your goals, your personality to an extent, and how you spend your time to an extent.

If you are not happy with any of these changeable things, you are allowed to work on changing them.  If you want to be more athletic, you can put in the time to practice and work towards athletic goals, even if it is something you have never done successfully before.  If you want to be punk or kawaii or whatever, you don’t need permission to work on developing a style for yourself.  And if you feel like at heart, you are a mean, petty person, you can focus on doing things that prove that perspective wrong, by working every day to let grudges go, and to be generous with your time and your energy.

All this stuff takes practice and time and baby steps, but NOBODY gets anywhere without putting in that time and effort, even if it seems like they were born the way you wish you were.  That effort and trial and error might go on behind the scenes, or they may have got an early start on their path, but that makes it no less legitimate than any time or experimentation of work that you want to put in starting now.

If you want to make changes like this, it doesn’t make you fake.  You aren’t trying to be something you are intrinsically not.  People are defined by what they do, not by anyone else’s opinion of them.  If people criticize you for being at an early stage in your self-development in some area, they are not being reasonable.  People are often unreasonable, but it reflects not at all on your choices and efforts.  Keep going and you will see results.  You will find more and more new ways to be happy about yourself as you get better and better at whatever it is you are working on.  It will be fantastic.
